Hi everyone! I had the pleasure of attending the new location of Jeni’s in the city and it was so delicious!! We got there about an hour or so early and there was already a crazy line – so biggie though, there was plenty of free ice cream to go around.
Jeni, herself, made an appearance at the opening too – it was so cool to talk to her about her unique flavors like Brambleberry Crisp. She told me that she gets her inspiration from her travels, from restaurants, movies and above all: literature. Jeni actually has a journal where she writes every flavor idea down. Another great fact about her business is that all ingredients are locally sourced including certain flavors like Hard Cider Sorbet, which has Granny Smith apples inside as well as locally brewed hard cider from a Chicago brewery in all the Jeni’s shops in the area (same process goes for other local flavors in other states). This is why Jeni’s stores have seasonal menus (though there are a few mainstay flavors that are available all year round.
I ended up trying the Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks as well as the Brambleberry Crisp on a freshly made waffle cone – yum!! The first one was so nutty and mixed well with the chocolate so I knew that one had to be chosen. The brambleberry one was a bit more unique, kind of tasted like a fruit tart since it was fruity with some crust inside. If I’m not mistaken, I believe both these flavors are available year round so whenever you go in, I recommend these!! The flavors weren’t bland and tasted very fresh, I want to try the Lemon & Blueberries one next!
That’s all I got for now – see you in the next post!
