I’ve been meaning to write a post about this for a while now but wanted to get a head start on it first. I’m currently customizing my own jacket with pins + patches + paint! Yay! After all the places I’ve visited in the past few years, I really wanted to commemorate the trips in an everyday way so I thought why not add them all to a jacket? I didn’t really wear the jacket much before anyway so this way it can have a new life!
It’s nowhere near done yet (I don’t even have a Chicago pin/patch yet!) but I’m really proud of it so far and can’t wait to keep adding to it as I see new places…and need pins/patches from places I’ve already been!
First, I painted the back with fabric paint in white and pink, then outlined the whole thing in sharpie to give it a more polished look. I also added pins from Create & Cultivate since I really liked how the pins matched the pink lettering.
For the front, the first pin I got was this blue Nashville one after visiting the Draper James store there (currently sold out, but this one is their Lexington version). As for a color palette, I would just pull colors from one pin and match it with colors of a new pin so it would all fit together. For instance, the gold in the heart is the same gold in the Vibes pin and the gold & red & black colors in the pizza (bought here, similar), Denver, and HBIC pins are colors in the Nashville pin too.
The final one I just got for Christmas, this cute Midwest pin! As I said before, I still don’t have a Chicago pin so I figured this would be a great one to add in until I do have one. 😉
For a unique touch, I added chain stitching from Vichcraft on the other lapel. She pops up in the city a lot so be sure to check her Instagram to see where she’ll be next!
Last (but not least) I got a Taylor Swift patch from this year’s concert since I love her music and am still trying to decide on where to put it on the jacket — maybe curled around the sleeve?
Which pin (or patch) should I add next? Let me know below of any you think are really cute! Also, if any of you decide to make jackets like this too, I’d love to see them!
See you in the next post!
