Hi everybody! I’m sure many of you have noticed a little trend on my Instagram lately…AVOCADO TOAST! This has obviously become a new favorite of mine so I’ve been searching high and low for a great version in the city and I think I found some gems. Without further ado, let’s check out the options!
First up is my own creation, which sadly I had to disqualify since you can’t exactly go into a restaurant to find it (haha) but so far it’s been my favorite one! If you need the recipe, check out this post here!
First on the roster is the toast from Slightly Toasted, just across the street from Ogilvie Transportation Center for the fellow commuters out there! Sadly, I didn’t love this one so much since the all the greens took over the flavor. If you want salad as a toast then you’ll like this but I wanted to taste the avocados and egg more.
The next one is from Maison Marcel, a new French-cafe style spot in Lakeview. I could have done without the sprouts but otherwise this was pretty good! The sweet potato hash added a nice touch, not to mention the ambiance of the space with everyone working peacefully around me.
A lot of you have probably heard about this next one: Summer House Santa Monica. I wanted to like this one more than I did but the meal was cold 😅. That aside, this toast had an interesting ingredient that I never would have thought to put in – mascarpone. This was pretty good but not great sadly, as was the service. Definitely going to come back for the cookies though since I hear they are really good.
The final is so far my favorite one – The Allis at Soho House. The avocado to bread ratio is UNREAL here – you get so much while the rest of these other options seemed to just scrape it on. The basil added a nice flavor and the farmhouse bread was so crunchy. The poached egg cuts the basil nicely. The ambiance here was perfect and I would definitely come back soon (read more about the experience here).
Well there you have it! The winner is The Allis! The more toasts I try, I’ll be sure to add a follow up post so stay tuned.
See you in the next post!
